FAQs

Q?

Can I contact you using encrypted email?

A.

Yes you can!  My public PGP key can be downloaded here!

Of course you'll need to send me your public key if I'm going to be able to send you encrypted messages back.  But you'll already know this.

Q?

I’m confused about Cloud Computing, can you help?

A.

Yes I can!  And I can understand why you might be confused.

Cloud computing is a term used for "hosted systems", though it can be a bit more complicated than that.  Many hosting providers now call themselves "cloud"companies, but there are businesses who were built from the ground up to be "cloudy".

Without getting into the whole "what is cloud" debate, if you're looking to get your computer systems on the cloud, by moving to Microsoft Office 365, switching your accounting software to a Software as a Service (subscription, web based model) or even moving some of your office servers to Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or SoftLayer hosted platforms, yes, I can help!

Q?

What does Justin do?

A.

... is a question that my wife is frequently asked, so I'll start with that!  The easy answer is "I work in IT" or the even simpler "I fix computers" which is almost ridiculously general but it's a great answer when you know the person who is asking is just being polite!

To get into more detail though, I do a lot of different things, I offer advice, design solutions to help my customers make better use of information technology, install complex software products and solve problems.

I do a lot of work around the IBM Business Analytics stack of software and  have gained vast experience in the technical side of these products since starting work for a company called Adaytum in 2001 but I've got many years experience in lots of products from many other vendors too, I'm a natural when it comes to IT (or as my wife describes me, "geek").

Q?

What’s with all the Latin?

A.

I know!  It's quite annoying.  If I delete the posts, the formatting of the page gets  knocked out, it's part of the template design for this website.

Within time this FAQ entry will  make no sense at all though as I am slowly replacing the Latin placeholder posts with real stories and other hopefully useful information.  Stay tuned!
